Stray Eras is the project of Oakland born A. Stray. Truly is the new album. It's about sincerity and laying everything out in attempt to move forward.
Stray who had initially come at music from the folky/ singer-songwriter finds himself with some new adopted musical influences. “I pretty much only listened to Michael Jackson and The Smiths all summer and I think I wanted to make an album that people could listen to in that sort of spirit. MJ and Morrissey both kind of put it all on the line emotionally and the music is always so high energy that you don’t have time to get bored.” Stray wrote and played everything on the record and even drew the cover art. “I had just come off of two amazing collaborations with very talented friends and I wanted to put myself to the test… to see what I could create all alone.”
The songs range from anthemic and dance worthy e.g. Only Our Fire, True Human, Devil’s Dimes to solemn and reflective e.g. Volcano Girl, Fringe Drifter, Stay Alive. The clap snare sounds definitely harken back to the 1980s in America when every recording artist suddenly became soaked in the digital technology of the decade. But it also feels modern. It’s nostalgia from the present day perspective.
